So, my last paycheck (which I received the 11th of the month) bounced. Today I got a notice and a returned check from my bank. Apparently the is insufficent funds to pay me my paycheck. I’m due to be getting another paycheck this Friday, the 25th…wonder if THAT ONE will bounce too.
Now I have overdraft fees because I thought the check went through (it took them almost 10 days to notify me). I live in the state of Ohio and I have NO clue what the laws/rules about such things are, I’m only 19 and have never dealt with an employer so shady or this awful before.
Also, the place I work is a franchise (I believe that’s what it is called). It is an individually owned store for a bigger corporation (kinda like how some Wendy’s are). The owner of the store is the one who pays the employees. He has an investment company, as all the paychecks are from HIS-LAST-NAME Investment Inc.
I loked up the investment company and only found I business under it…the store I work at, and the address for the investment company is the same address as the store.
Not sure if it is true, but I heard if an individual owns the store, they have to have a legit payroll company or who ever it is who writes out and distributes the paychecks. Maybe what i have heard is wrong, just wanted to check.
This store has had some other shady business on a smaller scale, mostly cheating employees and/or bullying them a bit…also lots of hiring and firing for almost no apparent reason..along with conflict of interest because the head manager hired 2 of her children to work in the store ever since she started working there.
Not sure what the best course of action would be, or who I should contact about the check. I already called and informed one of the managers that the check bounced, but the owner was out so couldn’t do anything about it.
Thanks for your advice and help ahead of time. If it matters any, I work at a local Petland store.
