I am self emp. seamstress….a business, school, wants to hire me.
I have experience with this from past I worked a bit with a company and at tax time the filed and i was stuck paying back more than what i made from them. from what i understand i can make up to 600.00 . but i can assure you i did not even come close to that in past and i still had to pay.
how can i work for this business and cover myself.
unsure is it even worth the 40 hours that i can give them ?

Me n my crew decided to get our party on last weekend since my dad was leaving for a week to go to Europe on business (he runs his own company which is pretty cool n **** since he stays the **** outta my face most days and buys me loadsa ****)

We thought we’d meet up at the lake Friday, set up a camp and party until Sat morning, invited the whole crew and a **** load of girls from the local town, musta been 10/1 ratio of girls to guys, pretty tight.

Anyway, musta been about 1am cause id downed about 8 beers and half a bottle of jack when i heard my man T hollering about some **** and i look up and see a riot van coming round the bend lights on sirens n ****.

Im like “hell no” and throw the girl off my lap and huddle up with my crew, we was gonna run since we under age but since we run **** in this town we thought we aint running nowhere and stood our ground.

The cops had the time of their life bustin the towns most hated crew, they musta been following me since i run **** in my town, some fbi or **** on my tail i bet. Any other time and we’d bust them pigs heads but i aint spending more time in lockup.

Anyway my dad flew down his lawyer and got me outta the station before breakfast.

I just got a job working in an office. The dress code is business casual but my new boss said “More business than casual”… I know the basics, like dress slacks and button up shirts but I just have a couple questions:

Can I wear tunic shirts like the one below to work? Should I just wear a cardigan and dress pants with it? Should I just opt for shorter shirts with slacks and longer dresses with hose?

I am looking to start a business that is designed specifically for teens. There are many stores today that are designed towards younger kids or adults, but none towards teens. The only place teens have to shop are small sections of large department stores. The store would contain: room accessories (being the main feature),accessories, a hobby section, books, dvds, cds, and video games. Another special section of the store would be a unique gift section for guys and girls. Teens are hard to buy for so we would have a section for a guy and another separate section for girls containing unique gifts that would be liked by teens. Would you shop from this store or would you rather shop in the department stores that cater to everyone?

i was using the central computer in the house and went to check my e-mail, my husband was logged in and there were some e-mails between him and another girl. they were talking about meeting each other at the local bar, playing some pool, and having a few drinks. i confronted him and asked why he was meeting her when he has me. he told me not to worry and quit being jealous cause they’re just friends and sometimes he just needs to be with a friend and chill. i asked why he hadn’t told me about this friend and introduced me. he said it just hadn’t crossed his mind to because her and i are so different. (i’m a full-time student double majoring in acct. and bus. admin. she’s a bar-hopper and a bit wild, he says) i didn’t feel like arguing with him, so i let it slide, but it did get my curiosity up and i checked (not log-in) to his facebook and myspace accounts. he’d told at least 4 other girls that they’re hot, sexy, gorgeous, have great racks, that he’d love to get a hold of them, etc… i confronted him about that too, he got mad at me for snooping in his private business, saying it’s not my concern what he says or does. i asked him flat out if he’s cheating. he said no, but he bets i am since i’m trying to accuse him. i’m definitely not ok with him leaving other women sexual comments. i don’t like him having a secret friend. i would not do that, i have more integrity than that. i don’t have proof he’s actually had an affair (yet) but i fear it’s very close to that. how should i approach this without seeming like a total nagging b!tc#?!
we’ve been married nearly 10 years, have 3 kids, a regular sex-life about 4-5 times a week, he’s 35, i’m 27 and i think i still look good.

Be clear here, if the Republicans call his bluff then everyone’s taxes rise and unemployment benefits won’t be extended and various college tuition and earned income credits and small business tax breaks won’t be extended.

If he can get the Senate Democratic leadership to go along should he make this stand instead of compromising?

I like to pre plan things before i jump right in and need a little help this time. I have loved training dogs since I was really little and I plan to pursue a career in it. I want to train dogs Agility, Basic commands, and fix problem dogs. I am thinking of working along side a shelter to train some of the dogs before they go to homes. What would be an ideal setup for this. I am thinking a large shed insulated with individual pens but dog runs connected by dogie doors. I was thinking $150 per week depending on the type of training but i’m not sure. I only want this to be a small thing like a side job but If i really like it I will grow bigger. Bloomberg Says Obama’s Democratic Base Should `Suck It Up’ on Tax-Cut Deal

President Barack Obama should tell Democrats angered by his compromises with Republicans on extending tax cuts to “suck it up,” New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.

Obama “can’t just sit there and depend on ideology” because “leadership is about doing the possible, not sitting around and waiting for the perfect,” Bloomberg said in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Bloomberg told business executives in Brooklyn last week that the U.S. economy will stagnate if Congress remains mired in partisan gridlock. Obama should tell Democratic critics his bipartisan tax-cut deal won’t be the only tough vote of his presidency, Bloomberg said on NBC.

“He says, ‘Look, this is what I did, this is the best I can do. Suck it up,’” Bloomberg said, when asked how Obama should deal with Democrats angered by the tax measure and other compromises with Republicans.

You were 18, and dating a drugie “Andrew” who you loved to death the only problem is he’ll hit you and treat you bad. You couldn’t leave Andrew because you loved him badly and had already lost your v-card to him. On second hand you had a cute friend “Mike” who was there for you, treated you like a princess!, you then both admitted to liking each other but you kept playing games with Mike. You kept leading him on, and then you made him feel bad on purpose lot’s of times you basically treated Mike like a carpet in lot’s of times but yet he was still there for you no matter what until one time Mike caught you hollering at his cousin thru a txt and he then moved to his dad’s in California and you never heard of him again.

5 YEARS LATER

Mike comes back, and he’s 23, has his own business, owns a 3 million dollar home in L.A Hollywood hills, and drives a Lamborghini.

How would you feel honestly as the girl?

But I’m not sure what to do.

Basically this is my first job since graduation. I have a degree in business and IT. I applied to a company by having my friend who works there forward my CV to HR. HR arranged an interview with the Quality Assurance team and I was successful - I took it because I needed the job and the financial security. So nearly two months in I am not enjoying it at all.

I realise that I am still new to it, but it’s not what I want from my career at all. Its a much more technical role, and I would love to be more directed towards the business roles in IT. There are opportunities to move within the company, but you need 1-2 years experience there before that path opens up. I feel as though I am a bit stuck, it would look bad if I left a job so early on, and the fact that I’m not in a position (financially) to leave makes it a little harder.

Any thoughts people?

My father has not been a part of my life for over 20 years. I have tried to reach out to him a few times, he would respond, but did not put out any effort to initiate contact with me. He is going to be passing away soon, within the week. I went to visit him a couple of weeks ago in the hospital. We did not talk at all. When I was there I found out his relationships with all of my siblings were the same. He made no effort at all with them. His business was always more important to him and this his family. I am also hearing that he is doing what he can at the end of his life to make sure his church and business partner (who belongs to his church) get everything so that his children get nothing.
Even now that he is on his deathbed, he is still trying to run his business from that, but has not bothered to reach out to me or my siblings. They have all reached to him. I feel like I said my goodbyes to him years ago, knowing that he did not want me in his life.
I feel no need to try and reach out to him more than the visit I paid 2 weeks ago, and also feel that was more than what he deserved.
From my understanding a funeral is to honor and pay respects to the deceased. But I feel that he is not worthy of this from me or my siblings. Should still go to his funeral to help my siblings with their grieving? I am afraid if I do go, I will get up and tell everyone that the man was an asshole.

If you ask me, the hottest spot for sustenance during Art Basel will be the now four-day-old Wynwood Kitchen & Bar (2550 N.W. 2nd Ave., Miami, 305-722-8959, wynwoodkitchenandbar.com). In keeping with the burgeoning Wynwood arts district, artists play a big role in the restaurant. The exterior features murals by American Kenny Scharf, twin Brazilian artists Os Gemeos and the American collaborative Dearraindrop. Inside, Shepard Fairey, the artist behind the iconic President Barack Obama HOPE poster, created a collage in his trademark palette of red, black and gold. The kitchen is helmed by chef Marco Ferraro, who’s also in charge of Wish restaurant in South Beach. Both restaurants are owned Jessica Goldman Srebnick and her partner and father, Tony Goldman, CEO of Goldman Properties. This is very much an American restaurant with Ferraro’s signature touches. You might start with such small plates as tomato gazpacho ($8), crispy artichoke hearts ($8) or tuna tartar ($10). Sections of the menu are dedicated to burgers ($10-$12), sandwiches ($12-$14) and entrees including barbecue chicken ($18) cooked over a wood burning grill, fish and chips ($21) and herb crusted baby rack of lamb ($29). The bar serves 40 beers, 20 wines by the glass and original cocktails named for each of the artists that collaborated on the restaurant the Wynwood Walls. The Walls, right next to the restaurant, are another Goldman creation. The series of outdoor murals, up since last year’s Art Basel, feature 15 artists from around the world. Gloria and Emilio Estefan will open their next Bongos Cuban Cafe at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Wednesday. On Tuesday night, they’re hosting a private party with a red carpet celebration, Cachao band, cigar rollers and live music. No word yet on who will show up, but the Estefans will no doubt pull in some of the glittering Miami crowd. (If they’re not too tired after Art Basel.) The 7,000-square-foot Bongos also has a 5,000 square foot rooftop lounge with a 360-degree view of the entire Hard Rock property. The Estefans own Lario’s on the Beach in Miami Beach and Bongos restaurants at AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, Miami International Airport and Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. The Hard Rock location will be open for lunch and dinner daily. The rooftop lounge will open until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Fort Lauderdale’s Jerk Machine celebrates 21 years

The Jerk Machine celebrates its 21st anniversary at 9 p.m. Saturday with $4 dinners, a DJ and party at the downtown Fort Lauderdale location. Owners Catherine and Desmond Malcolm left Toronto for Florida in 1989 with the idea that they’d open the kind of restaurant they remembered from their native Jamaica. They opened first in Lauderhill (4261 NW 12th St., 954- 321-8556) and later in Fort Lauderdale (111 NW 2nd St. 954-467-8882). If want a taste of Jamaica, check it out. I’ve always feel like I’m being waited on by family when I grab lunch here. DiGiorno Rising Crust Four Cheese, one of the most affordable pies with a suggested retail price of $6.47, was the top vote getter after Consumer Reports taste tested more than 100 cheese pies. DiGiorno, they said, has lots of cheese and sauce over a thick chew crust. DiGiorno shared the No. 1 spot with Amy’s Cornmeal Crust 3 Cheese, the most expensive pie tested at $7.99. Tasters liked Amy’s combination of fresh tasting vegetables, herbs, goat cheese and cornmeal crust. Also a top vote getter was the $7.42 Chicago-style Home Run Inn Classic Cheese with a pastry-style crust. Word to wise: Don’t buy by brand. Only the one DiGiorno pie scored high enough to place in the top three. “Frozen pizzas are convenient and more cost effective than a pizzeria and according to our tests, they can also offer quality,” said a Consumer Reports expert in a press release. “Shoppers should take into account more than just price when purchasing, ingredients and nutritional components factor into the overall experience.” Seven “sensory panelists” blind tasted each brand three times. They graded crust, cheese and sauce and then gave an overall impression. When judged on nutrition, Amy’s had the lowest in saturated fat and was among the lowest in sodium. Brad Hunsucker, director of franchise operations for Stanley Steemer of South Florida, offers five helpful tips on cleaning the most common food spills this holiday season. Grape/fruit juice spills: On carpet, use 1 teaspoon of cold water and blot up. If spot remains, mix together 1 cup of cold water and 1/2 teaspoon dishwashing detergent (not containing bleach). Blot and gently rub the spot. When the area is dry, mix cold water and baking soda, apply in the same manner, apply pressure to soak up the excess moisture. Butter stains: Use non-flammable dry cleaning fluid, which is available at most drug or hardware stores. Before applying solution, be sure to check for color and make sure the area is well-ventilated. Tea or coffee: Mix 1 cup of cold water with 1/2 teaspoon dishwashing detergent (not containing bleach). Blot and gently rub the spot. When the area is dry, mix 1 teaspoon white vinegar with 2 teaspoons of cold water, blot and let dry. Ice cream: Mix 1 cup cold water with 1/2 teaspoon dishwashing detergent. Moisten the spot with a teaspoon of the mix and gently rub, from the outer edges to the middle. Candle wax: Place a white unstarched towel over the area and lightly touch it with a warm iron. As the wax melts, it will be absorbed into the towel.

Deerfield’s Shelby’s Kitchen and Deli on Food Network Friday’

Erik Brinkmann can’t believe that a mistake in the kitchen has landed his restaurant, Shelby’s Kitchen and Deli in Deerfield Beach, on the Food Network’s “Outrageous Foods.” “I was pouring pancake mix and I had my rubber gloves on,” says Brinkmann. “When rubber gloves get moist, they get slippery. I ended up pouring the whole 64 ounces of pancake mix on the grill.” Brinkmann left it on the grill because cooked batter is a whole lot easier to remove than raw batter. The result was a two-foot round pancake, which became a permanent menu item about three years ago. Anyone who finishes the $19.99 pancake—served platter-style with home fries, sausage patties, bacon, eggs and toast—doesn’t have to pay for it. Brinkmann says 340 people have tried to eat this monster. None have succeeded. Along with the pancake, Brinkman’s menu also includes a 25-inch hot dog with fries for $18.99. Parties of two have no problem finishing that one. The restaurant makes its national debut on the Food Network at 10 p.m. Friday night. I wrote about the show last month, but was given incorrect information on when Shelby’s would appear. The restaurant is at 3952 W. Hillsboro Blvd, Deerfield Beach, 954-570-8773. Brooklyn Speaks Files for Stay of Construction at Atlantic Yards

Brooklyn Speaks sent us this email, which reads in part:

On Wednesday, November 24, several BrooklynSpeaks sponsor organizations filed a motion with New York State Supreme Court seeking to halt construction activities at Forest City Ratner Company’s Atlantic Yards site.

The motion comes after a November 9 decision from Justice Marcy Friedman finding that the Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC) lacked a rational basis for assuming that Atlantic Yards project would be completed in ten years when the agency approved the project’s 2009 Modified General Project Plan (MGPP).

“If nothing happens, FCRC will soon begin to raze buildings, grade and pave an entire city block in Prospect Heights to create 1,100 parking spaces for arena events,” said Gib Veconi of the Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council. “Although they say it’s an ‘interim’ parking lot, under the MGPP, it could stay that way for up to 25 years. The State needs to disclose the noise, traffic, and air quality impacts of that likely scenario before moving forward.”

“The difference between 10 and 25 years is a long time to wait for affordable housing,” added Deb Howard, Executive Director of the Pratt Area Community Council.

“The Governor and the Governor-elect can no longer ignore the fact that a State authority, appointed by the executive, has misrepresented a major development project to the Court and to the people of New York State. The ESDC has abdicated its obligations to the public purse and the public interest. Now it’s time for the Governor to put the interests of the people above those of a powerful real estate developer and commit to reform of Atlantic Yards governance.”

Gowanus Whole Foods Going Even Greener, Building Half-Acre Greenhouse

Now that Whole Foods Market is moving ahead with their first Brooklyn store at 3rd Avenue and 3rd Street, they’ve decided to go even greener and have made some dramatic changes to the original design.

According to the Brooklyn Eagle, these changes include:

- The number of onsite parking spaces has been reduced from 430 to 248.

- Parking for energy-efficient vehicles as well as specially designated recharging stations for electric powered vehicles will be provided.

- Bike parking in front of the store and along the 40-foot pedestrian promenade will be installed.

- The store will create a 20,000-square-foot rooftop greenhouse that will grow fresh, organic produce onsite.

20,000 square feet is almost half an acre — pretty darn decent for a Brooklyn garden. If it is operated like the Whole Foods garden in Richmond, Virgin ia,the plot will supply fresh produce for prepared dishes and salad-bar options.

The enterprising man in the Google Street View image above is ready to roll. He’s placed a shopping cart in the middle of the street and has another one ready to go on the sidewalk. Good fellow!

The striking building on the corner is the landmarked Coignet Stone Company Building, which isn’t going anywhere. It is one of the earliest known concrete buildings in New York City, and possibly the country. More about it here.

Bloomberg Has His Way with Cathie Black

Not much surprise here — in spite of a “No” vote by his eight-member advisory board, state Education Commissioner David M. Steiner caved, giving Mayor Michael Bloomberg what he has been demanding: a waiver that would allow the tragically inexperienced Cathie Black to become chancellor of the nation’s largest school system.

The legal out Steiner employed (which may not actually be legal) was Bloomberg’s agreement to have an actual qualified educator serving ~~with~~ under Black, apparently whispering in her ear about all things educational. This qualified educator is Deputy Chancellor Shael Polakow-Suransky, who has experience running schools and has actual degrees and stuff.

Isn’t that always the way? The guy with the real talent and experience ends up working as “assistant” to the boss’s favorite.

Bloomberg says that Black, chairperson at Hearst Magazines (by the way, she seems like a nice person who somehow just got mixed up with the wrong people) doesn’t need any experience in education because she’s a talented manager.

Today a group of talented retired teachers are hoofing it over to Hearst Magazines in the hopes of snagging Black’s job. Sounds fair.

Hey — money saving idea! Why not cut out Black and just appoint Polakow-Suransky? We hear he’s really qualified.

Walmart : We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Hearing in New York City

Walmart officials “have made it clear they intend to open stores in the five boroughs,” says Crain’s, and the City Council is doing the right thing by holding a public meeting about the store’s potential impact on small businesses and the surrounding communities on Tuesday, Dec. 14 (details in the Brooklyn Eagle).

One potential location, the Gateway II complex in East New York, Brooklyn, has already received land-use approval.

But Steven Restivo, Walmart’s director of community affairs, told Crain’s the company didn’t see the need for a council hearing.

“This hearing is particularly curious since it seems to ignore the fact that the city is already home to hundreds of stores similar to Walmart,” he told Crain’s.

Hundreds? What? Where?

The Neighborhood Retail Alliance (composed of mom and pop store owners) wants the City Council to reconsider the” myth” that the retail giant — whether in the form of superstores or “Little Wallies” — will be an overall plus for New York. They say that Walmart would have a negative effect on the city’s supermarkets and the “immigrant business class” that is heavily represented in the food business here.

As part of a study, they’ve asked store owners to make lists of their local suppliers — meat and produce in particular — and will contrast this “local nexus” (the Hunt’s Point Market, for example) with the way Walmart brings much of its inventory in from outside the city.

They also point out tactics that have worked for Walmart in other cities. In Chicago, for example, Walmart created “a fake community group that purports to represent a community’s residents and interests,” according to Neighborhood Retail Alliance.

That’s a tactic familiar to many Brooklynites, and it always seems to work.

According to NY1, Mayor Bloomberg — who isn’t bothered by the store’s low wages and anti-union stance — is in favor of Walmart coming in.

Large Tree Down on Montague Street, Brooklyn Heights

A truck owned by North Star Food Service backed into a mature pear tree on Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights about 9 a.m. this morning, ripping it out of the ground by its roots and knocking it down.

Fire fighters from Ladder Company 118 arrived about ten minutes after the tree fell and sawed it into pieces.

Very sad.

Flatbush Gardens — Like Home, Depending On the Home . . .

According to Flatbush Gardens, the 59-building Brooklyn complex in East Flatbush “is home to an eclectic, friendly community of families, young professionals, and seniors alike. It’s a place where neighbors know each other and the management and maintenance staffs are always ready to help. Flatbush Gardens is what home feels like. “

So how is it possible that, according to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the massive complex has 8,100 current, open violations and counting? An HPD spokesman told the Real Deal, “this is bad — and we’re probably not getting the full extent of it.”

A look at one of the building’s records on HPD’s web site confirms hundreds of violations ranging from roaches to defective carbon monoxide devices to mold to defective wood floors and broken door knobs.

Seems like that friendly maintenance staff is locked in a contract dispute with landlord Renaissance Equity Holdings. They’ve put together a video (see the Real Deal) that raises a number of questions about what exactly is going on in the basement out there . . .

Brooklyn Menace to Society Finally Arrested, Thanks to New York Times

It took one of the most powerful newspapers in the free world to bring to justice a Brooklyn criminal who terrorized customers over the Internet.

Vitaly Borker, who operates the eyeglasses web site with the awkward name DecorMyEyes was finally arrested Monday. Even though his victims had complained to the police that he cheated them, threatened to sexually assault them, sent “I know where you live” photos of their own buildings to them, sent manacing letters to their employers and more, no one did anything until the New York Times visited the creep. Borker bragged that every online complaint only raised his Google profile.

After the story came out in the Times, Google said they were going to recalibrate their algorithms so crime doesn’t pay (at least crime won’t push a company’s search rankings higher on Google). And finally, law enforcement got into gear and arrested Borker (the load of guns found in his apartment doesn’t help his case).

Blogs are wonderful — but may we suggest that everyone go out a buy a copy of the Times now and then?

Pies Up the Wazoo at P.S. 29 in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn

There were literally hundreds of delicious pies at P.S. 29’s “Eat Pie and Shop” Holiday Gift Fair and Pie Social in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn yesterday. Local bakers – both amateurs and professionals – cooked up sweet pies (fruit and berry, along with pumpkin and custard) and savories, like quiche. The pies were judged by parents and a panel of celebrity chefs, and were eaten by hoards of ravenous shoppers like us.

Where to start? Pumpkin is usually one of our favorites but this time we couldn’t resist the double-crust apple pies, which looked like they had black birds baked inside.

The pecan pies were teeth-rattlingly sweet.

Some people went for the chocolate cream. We don’t really hold with that.

After stuffing our faces we staggered out of the cafeteria to do some shopping at the gift fair, which had a really nice assortment of cute handmade items.

Our favorite: tiny little moss terrariums built inside light bulbs, little glass jars and blown glass orbs made by Twig Terrariums, run by Michelle Inciarrano and Katy Maslow from Brooklyn. Beside plant life (easy to maintain, they say) each terrarium contains a little scene with teeny-tiny people.

Inside this one, for example, a cop is arresting a guy in a graffiti-strewn park. Very cool.

All in all it was a great event (sponsored by Fork + Pencil, Half Pint Citizens and Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain), and even better because the proceeds went to support the P.S. 29 PTA.

Brooklyn Friends School’s Winter Festival 2010

Once again the selection of crafts at the Brooklyn Friends School’s Winter Festival on Saturday was outstanding. Several floors of the school (in Downtown Brooklyn next to the Marriott on Pearl Street) were transformed into a winter wonderland with the huge craft sale, a holiday plant sale, lunch and baked goods, entertainment and children’s stories, a book fair and a children’s carnival.

There were many different styles of jewelry in roughly two categories: the pretty, delicate kind and the clunky, heavy kind. Above — the pretty, delicate kind.

These T-shirts featured 3-D bugs in a little clear pouch.

Fine & Raw Chocolates makes famous “artisan confections.” If you missed them Saturday, try the Brooklyn Flea.

Upstairs , there were games and bouncy things for kids at the carnival, including this School of Sorcery and Academy of Alchemy castle. Our favorite was a huge bouncy maze, which, if no one was looking, we would have been all over.

The proceeds from this extravaganza benefits the Horizons Program for public school children in Downtown Brooklyn. Nice work!

Green-Wood Cemetery Will Commemorate 50th Anniversary of Airplane Crash in Park Slope

On the morning of Dec. 16, 1960, 134 people lost their lives when United Airlines Flight 826 and TWA Flight 266 collided over the skies of Staten Island. The United aircraft crashed in Park Slope, at the intersection of Sterling Place and Seventh Avenue.

On Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at 9:45 a.m. — 50 years to the day of the tragic crash — Green-Wood Cemetery will be honoring those who perished, both in the sky and on the ground, by unveiling a new eight-foot memorial. The granite monument will stand sentinel near the gravesite where the unidentified remains of victims have rested for half a century.

This special unveiling ceremony and memorial service are co-sponsored by New York Methodist Hospital and the Park Slope Civic Council, and are free to the public. Participants will gather at the cemetery’s main entrance at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue at 9:45 a.m. The service will begin promptly at 10 a.m.

SantaCon NYC 2010 this Saturday (Dec. 11)

OK all you white-bearded drunken lunatics: SantaCon is on for Saturday. If you’ve ever been caught up in this all-day revelry, you know it’s not to be missed. (Or maybe it’s to be avoided like the plague?)

According to the official web site, “Santacon is an annual convention for Santa and his holiday brethren.
Expect holiday cheer, unconventional gifts, naughty carols and general mayhem.”

After hundreds of authentically-dressed Santas and the odd reindeer meet up at a secret location (sometimes in Brooklyn, sometimes not) they invade bridges, subways and buses in their trek around town, showing up en mass at tourist destinations, malls and, most importantly, bars. Where they are expected to tip decently. Because if Santa screws you, the world is a bleak place indeed.

Six Apart Likes Facebook’s Open Graph

Facebook’s announcement on the Open Graph at the F8

conference caused quite a stir yesterday.

Mark Zuckerberg described this as a technology that pulls together all the different social networks to create a web “that is smarter, more social, more personalized and more semantically aware.”

As more and more content pours onto the web our ability to efficiently navigate it becomes increasingly important. Facebook’s assertion is that you are going to be more interested in the things your friends, and others you are connected to, are interested in. We think they are bang on.

Blogging is a great networking tool that allows you to build a community around your passion, hobby or business and we’ve been building features to help customers drive community and link it into social networks like Twitter and Facebook. Six Apart’s focus on community and social media resulted in Facebook selecting TypePadas an official launchpartner for this announcement. Today we released Facebook “Like” to members of our beta team for testing and feedback. We have already seen some great integrations as well as a ton of positive feedback on the Everything TypePad blog.

Beginning in the late 1930s, Norman Rockwell adopted photography as a tool to bring his illustration ideas to life in studio sessions. Working as a director, Rockwell carefully staged his photographs, selecting props and locations, choosing his models, and orchestrating every detail.

He created an abundance of photographs for each new subject, sometimes capturing complete compositions and other times combining separate pictures of individual elements.

Pratt Institute and Ralph Pucci International will present “Pratt + Paper & Ralph Pucci,” an exhibition of paper designs by students studying fashion design, fine arts, industrial design and interior design at the college.

There is much to admire and, as they say in school, “things that need work” in Jonah Bokaer’s collaborative Anchises, which ran last week at the Abrons Art Center in Manhattan.

Set during the Troy Wars, this nearly forgotten story tells how the half-mortal hero Aeneas (son of Aphrodite) carried his father, Anchises, from the ashes on his shoulders. For Bokaer, this story embodies the tender and sometimes fraught relationship between old and young.
